Life has a tendency to get in the way of things we love so much. Since I last blogged we have settled into our new life here in Longview. We truly love it here! God has such an awesome way of reminding us daily how much He loves us. It took some time but we found a home and it was "move in ready". Not even a wall needed to be painted. Thanks God! The people of LFA have made this transition one of the easiest we have ever experienced. What an incredible group of people we have the opportunity to serve. Again, Thanks God!

I have had more opportunities to speak and teach than ever before since arriving in Longview. (Which has been both stretching and rewarding.) Edgar even let me loose on a couple of Sunday mornings! I love working with my man and being a part of his team!

We just got home from a "magical" vacation in Florida. We laughed and enjoyed Disney as much or more than ever before. I did get a little weepy watching as my Gabby posed for pictures with characters. Remembering how tiny she was the first time we went and seeing her now, this beautiful young lady, was almost more than I could handle! Jaden and his fun loving personality kept us all in stitches. And for the record, there is no place I enjoy holding my "Prince's" hand than in front of the castle at Magic Kingdom. But, now it is time to start thinking Edgar's birthday, Thanksgiving and Christmas. We are coming into such a busy time of year, but if I've discovered anything in the past few months it's SLOW DOWN and enjoy today. Some days that's easier said than done. Seriously!

Here We GOOOOOOOO!

I have often laughed at the concept of "If you don't talk about it, it doesn't exist". But the last couple of months I have found myself practicing that very concept. However, this week it's time to talk about it. The move to Longview is immanent. LOL! We will close on our house here in Humble on Friday morning, then it's off to a two bedroom apartment until we can find THE house in Longview. I have been so overwhelmed by all the friends that have shown up to help us pack (& say they will be here) and help us load. I can't believe our time in Humble is almost over. As I walked through the empty house, I realized that it wasn't empty at all. It is full of memories that we have shared with some of the greatest people we have ever served. I couldn't help but think about the family holiday's we have hosted, the "drop in" youth parties, the open invitation American Idol Tuesday's, dinners, the NUMEROUS overnight guests (some that stayed longer than others), and watching my kids grow up in these halls. It is official that I am a blessed woman! 19015 Dee Wood has been an incredible place to call home and I will always cherish every second. Thanks to all of you who have shared in these memories. You are loved beyond measure. Now to the home that awaits us in Longview, you have a lot to live up to precious home. And although thus far you have remained hidden, I will find you and I will make you my own. New house you have no clue what is headed your way, because when the Ayala's get there you will be forever changed! Seriously!

Our New Adventure

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_UR24T9mhhV4/S4_1CoIDNRI/AAAAAAAAATE/1u2jlAMw97E/s320/IMG_0864.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5444839899993945362" />
Hello again! Have you missed us?! I hope you have, because I have missed my blogging time. Since I last blogged, our gracious and unchanging God has turned our world upside down and I am so in awe of His fun loving passion for us.

On January 17, 2010 Edgar and I were elected to be Lead Pastors at Longview First Assembly in Longview, Texas. What an amazing opportunity! Our time here in Humble has been littered with learning experiences, friends, and growth. As I sit and type this my heart is so full of love and appreciation for the people of Humble First. They have laughed with us and cried with us for the past five years and we will never be the same because of thier influence on our lives. If I could say thank you with the depth of gratitiude that I feel for them this blog would never end. I'm glad I will spend eternity with them.

And so now, the new phase of life starts for the Ayala's. The past month has held the "divide and conquer" plan, and I have quickly come to appreciate my husband on a new level. We have signed a contract on our home here in Humble and are now going to be moving at warp speed to find one in Longview! Edgar and I are looking forward to what lies ahead. But not forgetting the past, because it has gotten us to the point we are at. Look out Longview! And as Humble has grown to know, with the Ayala's in town....There is never a dull moment, SERIOUSLY!!!!!!

Family

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_UR24T9mhhV4/SnywTeZucYI/AAAAAAAAASs/yybK5FWUdKU/s320/july+2009+010.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5367358704543756674" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_UR24T9mhhV4/SnywIuhx7cI/AAAAAAAAASk/KHAO1WCoAyY/s320/july+2009+007.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5367358519893945794" />
So, I often blog about how much I love my family. I'm sure you, the reader, get very tired of hearing about them. But I don't apologize about it. My world revolves around two things, my relationship with God and my family. This summer seems to have been very busy, but still we have had lots of fun with our extended family. Some of them live here in the Houston area, but most of them live far away. I've posted pictures of my nieces and nephews but today, you meet Aunt Jan and Maegan. (yes that's how you spell her name)

My aunt and cousin came to see us and spent almost a week. I can't even begin to tell you how much I enjoyed them being here. Aunt Jan actually baby sat for us while we went to a leadership retreat one night, and in heroic fashion took on the task of my kids camp laundry. She truly is wonderful! My son fell in love with Maegan and rightfully so, she is beautiful! Gabby looks up to her, and I have already explained the HUGE responsibility that is. We even snookered them into stayin one extra night, but the whole concept of transferring down here didn't really fly. You can't blame a girl for trying! We even decided to get crafty and made tie dye t-shirts one night. Jaden decided to open the green dye bottle with his teeth,so needless to say we were dealing with green lips, teeth, and so very much more! When you vacation with the Ayala's...there's never a dull moment! SERIOUSLY!!<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_UR24T9mhhV4/SnywiPG8_uI/AAAAAAAAAS0/c4o0pe_QxGA/s320/july+2009+009.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5367358958136524514" />

Wanna See..??

If you wanna see what my family has been up to this week, go to www.magnifykidschurch.blogspot.com ..There are some great pictures and a fun video of Jaden and Edgar on the water slide. Edgar and both kids are gone to Kids Camp this week,and I had to stay and work. Lucky for me that my friend Deb sent her boys to camp and agreed to come and stay with me. I know that it's good to have a break from your family, but it's way to quiet at my house. It's funny how on a "normal" day when everyone is screaming and yelling and running through the halls,I want it to calm down. And now that it's calm, I really want them to come home. I guess we always want what we don't have, and then when we get it we aren't sure we want it after all. I heard a quote once that said,"If you don't have what you want, want what you have."

This morning as I was making my coffee, Deb pointed out how many times in God's word He tells us to "Be quiet or be still". I am so not good at being quiet or still - EVER. This is definitely an area that He and I are working on. What a great chance for me this week to "Be still and know that He is God". May you this week find a quiet place and do the same. Listen to His voice and feel Him smother you with His great love and just rest in the peace that His hand offers.

I love the Beach

Living so close to the coast we have the "luxury" of going to the beach pretty much at will. It may not be the beautiful white sand of the Bahama's or Destin, but it is sand and salt water. Being there with the sun shining, the waves rolling in, the sea gulls calling, and friends and family makes for an incredibly relaxing and just plain fun place to be.

This summer we've been to Galveston 3 times and hope to go at least once more. We look like the Beverly Hillbillies when we get there. We pull into the parking lot at the beach and take out our tent, ice chest, chairs, beach toys, boogie boards, beach bag, hats, and towels and item by item set up a pretty amazing site. Anyway, the more people we can take the more fun it always is. Enjoy our beach pic's. Some of them are with our nephews, Noah and Joshua. A few of them are friends, and several are just of us, the Ayala's. Seriously....WE LOVE THE BEACH<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_UR24T9mhhV4/SmZ5wXzkxEI/AAAAAAAAASE/VmK_6EL5IQI/s320/Summer+fun+2009+014.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5361106278362170434" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_UR24T9mhhV4/SmZ6BE0GFfI/AAAAAAAAASM/pB3q4T8AwqU/s320/Summer+fun+2009+015.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5361106565321856498" />
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_UR24T9mhhV4/SmZ6QcE4KJI/AAAAAAAAASU/Esmt4npEsug/s320/Summer+fun+2009+025.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5361106829264300178" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_UR24T9mhhV4/SmZ6qb3ioYI/AAAAAAAAASc/iFOoa8JUkLM/s320/Summer+fun+2009+001.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5361107275884962178" />

IT'S ALREADY JULY..??!!

I can't believe that it is already the middle of July and camp and missions trips have come and gone. This summer has gone by way faster for me than the last few. I don't want summer to end this year. What an amazing one we have had. I am grateful that we have a month or so left though, and believe me we will take full advantage! We are heading to the beach on Friday and Saturday, still have several fun things we want to do before school starts and plan to savor every second of summer fun and sun.

Last week we were in Destin, Florida for camp. I was amazed at what God did in our students lives, but in mine as well. One of the best parts for me was that I got to see my niece's that live in Tulsa. I soooo enjoyed swimming, painting toe nails and finger nails and listening to them giggle. Any time I can get with them is very valuable. Here are a couple of "family pictures" we took while we were there.<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_UR24T9mhhV4/Sl9jKnE2bDI/AAAAAAAAARE/bJd0yA9rBRY/s320/Summer+fun+2009+072.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5359111115533347890" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_UR24T9mhhV4/Sl9jlSGE9oI/AAAAAAAAARM/xYmtj7o6-UU/s320/Summer+fun+2009+081.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5359111573757818498" />
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_UR24T9mhhV4/Sl9j6gXf4fI/AAAAAAAAARU/pKqm_-k-Fz4/s320/Summer+fun+2009+080.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5359111938366235122" />

VBS is the BOMB!

So last week we were in Oklahoma City doing VBS for Inner City OKC. What an amazing week! We came back exhausted, excited, challenged, and ready to do more than we ever have before. Not only did we have an incredible week of ministry, but I had the opportunity to spend some time with my family and very precious friends. If you don't have a facebook page you need to get one. Not to long ago I bit the bullet and bowed to the facebook fad. It is very cool!
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_UR24T9mhhV4/SkAVa6-GinI/AAAAAAAAAQs/VJ01Y-kiRQk/s320/Summer+%2709+186.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5350299909566663282" />

I said all that to say how great to catch up with high school friends and people we have gotten aquainted with through ministry. One of my best friends in high school brought her family and met my family for lunch one day. I sooo enjoyed catching up and getting a chance to meet her family. My sides still hurt from laughing as we talked about old times. We are for sure legends in our own minds!<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_UR24T9mhhV4/SkAVughy6tI/AAAAAAAAAQ0/yElf25tzuIg/s320/Summer+%2709+168.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5350300246065998546" />

It was also great to be able to see my parents and my Memaw while I was there. I was however, very bummed that both of my nieces were sick and didn't get to come. I miss those little girls more than I can begin to express!

The students that went on this trip were absolutely amazing. They worked and worked hard everyday. There was never a task or request they didn't embrace with eagerness. We are so blessed to have them and to be a part of thier lives. I can't wait to see what this summer holds for them. It's going to be great.

Father's Day was quite relaxing. We went to church and then to lunch and spent the rest of the day swimming. Later that night we went to the movies and enjoyed loving on the greatest Daddy in the world. (or at least in our house. gotta be careful my Daddy reads this too, and he is TRUELY the greatest Daddy in the world!) Anywhooo, Enjoy the pic's...<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_UR24T9mhhV4/SkAWh3WPCFI/AAAAAAAAAQ8/Ip2CY2lOiKE/s320/Summer+%2709+191.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5350301128364853330" />

Busy, Busy, Busy

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_UR24T9mhhV4/Si050OZAYwI/AAAAAAAAAQk/OpwDeAIal9M/s320/That%27s+how+we+roll.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5344991902137606914" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_UR24T9mhhV4/Si0461z-jEI/AAAAAAAAAQc/zHVUYVMJdgo/s320/Jaden+Football+camp.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5344990916287302722" />
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_UR24T9mhhV4/Si03NU1fBsI/AAAAAAAAAQU/d5TsFN7GiCs/s320/Date+night+2.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5344989034829514434" />
Whatever happend to those "lazy" days of summer?! We haven't had much laziness yet. This weekend was no execption. Friday night was date night. My wonderful man took me to see "Fiddler on the Roof" and to an incredible dinner. I ate so much Friday night I need to eat celery and air for the next week to make up for it.
But, then Saturday came around. It was divide and conquer. Edgar and Jaden went to football camp bright and early, and Gabby and I went to the church to run the OKC missions trip meeting and training. Football camp was a success and training was, well training but we had fun. Saturday afternoon it was time to head to the lake to do some jet skiing. How pathetic that Jaden has never been to the lake in his whole life. When I was growing up going to the lake was called "vacation". Gabby opted out of the lake and went to a friends house. Once on the jet ski and tube I discovered muscles in places apparently I did not know existed. Watching me ride a tube is quite entertaining I'm told. I believe the quote was " You looked like an octopus with 12 arms and legs". Nevertheless, it was fun. Now, Sunday. Church came first of course but after lunch...to the Roller Rink Baby! Oh, yes, I got my skate on! I am still a beast on four wheels. I did the "Hokey Pokey", played "Four Corners" and "Shoot the Duck" and never once did my behind graze the roller rink floor. I amaze myself. We were there for a birthday party and not only did we skate but we ate some really good cookie cake. Then it was home to pack for Edgar's trip to Haiti. There are a couple of pictures of Jaden being fitted for his helmet and pads, and one of some fun in the pool with the Perry kids and Tibbitt's girls. It's starting to feel like the Houston we've always known, hot, muggy,and very humid! That tells me hurricane season has started and the very mention of it gives me a tummy ache. All the news weathermen are giving out those free hurricane preparedness booklets. I don't even want to think about all that stuff! But, I know I need to. In the mean time, enjoy our fun summer shots.

Love the Summer...

I love summer time! The pool, sleeping late, hot sunny days, late nights watching movies, and so much more. This summer we are adding football practices 3 times a week to the list. Next week Jaden starts football practices for the sophmore squad of the Atascocita Titans. Edgar and I are as excited as he is, I think. Gabby is going to spend the summer learning how to serve the volleyball overhanded. She can do it, just needs a little practice. Not a whole lot of new stuff going on in our house though.

I have been reading a book called "Jesus Mean and Wild", and I am loving it. The idea that Jesus confronted stuff and didn't shy away from it -EVER, makes me happy. I guess watching different things go on around me, I'm seeing how many things we as the body of Christ have shyed away from dealing with for one reason or another. Wonder what would happen if we started calling sin what it is -SIN. That's exactly what Jesus did. He didn't decide what to address based on how many people or who might be offended, he just spoke the truth in love. Hoping I can start to do a little more of that! May this be the summer of truth and renewed passion for just more of Him.

SOOOO PROUD!

For the Ayala family, the 2008-2009 school year is officially over. Edgar and I are no longer living with 1st and 5th graders. We now share living space with 2nd and 6th graders. The awards assembly was this morning and both kids won awards. Now, as all parents often do, i had a feeling that they would be getting "A" or "A B" honor roll certificates. And sure enough they did. But the next one was a shocker for mom and dad. Gabby and Jaden both won the Christian Leadership Award for their class. That award is given to the student who most consistently displays a Christlike character in the classroom and on the playground. Do you know what that means?! It means they don't act like they do at home when they are in public! I dare anyone to tell me that there is not a God in Heaven. I actually could have cried. It makes everyday that we feel like the worst parents ever, because we say no, worth it. We could not be more proud of both of them. And to top it all off, as Jaden's teacher commented that the students in her classroom were going somewhere, he hollered "yeah college". So now we know he's even looking into his future. It's been a good day!

After school we took them to see the new Night at the Museum movie at the Imax downtown. It was a fantastic movie and we all enjoyed it! Edgar did pick up on the Jonas Brother's vocals in the movie long before anyone else did though. (a little strange perhaps?!) What an appropriate end to an almost perfect day!

End of School

Well it's our last week of school, can you believe that? And speaking of report cards, I am living with 2 straight A students! Both kids have had fantastic school years and are very excited for the summer to finally be here. It's warming up and they are ready to ride bikes, swim, go to the park, and just sleep in each morning. Normally, my family plans and surprises me with sweet cards and presents. This year was a little different. Since we were just on vacation, all of my Mother's Day fun stuff was given ahead of time. They got me some great new kitchen things, like a new tea kettle, towels, & measuring cups. THe best part was we got to spend the entire day with family. All of Edgar's family came over and we had a blast. Edgar grilled pork chops (covered in his new honey lime glaze he made). Let me just say no one ever leaves hungry after an Ayala get together. Here are our Mother's Day pictures.

More Vacation

Justin and I took this exact picture about 20 years ago on our first family trip. Spending the week with our family and friends was so much fun. The hard part was going home after being with them for a week, and having "anytime access" to them. If you are a person that takes family for granted, move 8 hours away from them and try seeing them only a couple times a year for 4 years, and then see how you feel. The time I get to spend with my nieces and nephews (Burke boy's included) is so precious to me, and this trip was no exception!<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5333468090211848498" style="DISPLAY: block; We had a blast! I can assure you that Edgar and I soaked in every single moment we spent in the "happiest place on earth". Watching the kids interact with each other, listening to them laugh, feeling those little hands grab hold of ours was absolutely priceless to us. Here are a few of my favorite moments:

Walking into the room and my kids finding the Mickey Mouse towel formation on the bed

Playing with the kids in the middle of Main Street USA waiting on the parade to begin

Riding It's a Small World just me and Chloe

Charli spending the night with us

Taking "matching" 80's pic's with Justin

Laughing with Deb when I almost flipped mom out of her wheelchair

Test Track with the Gomez boys

Rockin Roller Coaster with Debbie

Swimming with the Burke boys

Gabby singing karaoke at the pool

Jaden's smile after he got off Expedition Everest and Rockin Roller Coaster

Kissing Edgar in front of Cinderella's Castle at night

Riding Soarin with my daddy

Watching mom hold the kids in her lap as they both rode in the wheelchair

This will forever go down as one of my all time favorite vacation's ever! All four of us are buzzing around and seems like we can't stop smiling. In 5 days we will be on our way to Florida to spend the week. The last minute preparations are being made. You know stuff like getting more socks that you really needed 6 months ago but put off, and now that you can't do laundry you have to have. Gabby and I have been planning everyone's daily wardrobe. Jaden really would be fine if we let him wear the same t-shirt and shorts the entire week. She on the other hand thinks it necessary to pack 3 outfits per day. Oh, the HUGE abyss between the mind of a boy and the mind of a girl.

Reservations have been made, tickets purchased, and now we endure the long grueling days before lift off. Have you ever noticed how slow the days go by when you are ready to "get the heck 'outta Dodge" and hit the road? I know I am going to enjoy every second of this trip. We will be with my parents, grandparents, my brother's family, my precious friend Deb and her boys, and last but certainly not least Edgar's sister and her family. I can't wait to spoil all my nieces and nephew's rotten! We will try and post some pictures while we are gone. I let her do something tonight that my mom and dad never let me do...she had a friend spend the night on a school night. (I always wanted to that but never could..) We took them to Denny's for dinner.(because kids eat free on Tuesday nights...the Randy Graves in me lives on!) I can't believe that 11 years ago toady I started this crazy journey of parenting. I can remember thinking after everyone was gone and Edgar and I were alone in the room holding her and looking at her in absolute amazement, "What do I do now?". It's unbeleiveable how many mistakes I've already made with her and yet she is truly wonderful. I hope the next 11 years, and beyond, are just like the first. I know I repeat myself often, but she really is amazing. Who knew in that tiny room in Tyler, Texas how radically our lives would change.....for the better. Happy Birthday Madison Gabrielle
I love you!!! I hope your Easter was great. Ours was very stormy and wet, but it was good. It was the first Easter we can remember not spending it with family, but just with the four of us. The bad storms kept Edgar's family from being able to come today and we missed them! The egg hunt was in the gym and the kids had a great time. Jaden has learned a lot about the "crutchifixtion" and the sacrifice Jesus made for us. What a wonderful Savior we have. I'm so grateful for all He has done for us, and most of all for the fact that HE IS ALIVE!

Enjoy our Easter pictures. Gabby picked out my dress and hers on the Good Friday shopping trip. Jaden and daddy both picked out their "duds".

Academy

In my last blog I shared the oh so sad quest to find a swim suit. As I had assumed I would, I despised every minute of it. Can anyone tell me how or why the top half of a modest tankini should cost $98? And the bottom an additional $98? Yes, at Dillard's I actually saw those prices on "swim separates". The cheapest I saw in the mall was $35 per piece. If you could promise me that I would look like a Sport's Illustrated swim suit model when I put your swim wear on, I would still question if $35 per piece was worth it! After the complete disgust at the mall I strangely ended up at Academy. There I found cute swim suits that were only $15 per piece. The best part was when I tried the swim suits on and closed my eyes I DID look like a swim suit model. So for all of you that like me, need new summer wear, look in places that you might not think to look and you just might find something amazing!!!!

I am sooooo having fun working at the attorney's office this month. It gets hot here alot faster than it does in most places. Normally, it's no big deal to drag out the summer wardrobe and endure the blazing tempratures. However, this year I have to buy an entirely new summer wardrobe. I have been working very hard to loose some unwanted poundage. The current total is right around 25 or so pounds. Although I am very proud of the loss, it creates a new problem - swim suit shopping. Ugh! It doesn't matter what I weigh, I always hate shopping for swim suits. It is difficult for people like me that tend to be a tad petite in the "northern hemisphere" and a little more rounded in the "southern hemisphere". Thank God for the person that came up with the "mix and match" tankini. They should be heralded as some of the greatest inventors of our modern era. Shopping is always fun for the most part, unless you have to take the children. So hopefully in the next couple of evenings I can sneak away for the entertaining task of swim suit shopping.

Gabs Blog

Oh by the way...for those of you that have tried to see Gabby's blog and only found some kind of "wise sayings" we have fixed it now. You can go to www.gabsvstheworld.blogspot.com and I think you should be good to go. When she calls herself "Maddi" she doesn't have multiple personalities or anything, it's just what her friends at school call her. For some reason she goes by her first name at school now. It get very confusing to try to call her by the right name in the right location and know who "Madison's mom" actually is. It's been a while since I have had a chance to sit down and blog. The Ayala family has been very busy the past few weeks. It's funny how time seems to move a little quicker now days than it used to. Let's see, what can I catch you up on?

Jaden - The next generation Sooner, has now played 2 football games and scored in both of them. The last game he broke a 99 yard run. 99 yards!!! I was an absolute idiot. You would have thought he was playing in the Superbowl. He is loving this football thing and is pretty good at it. On spring break we went to Oklahoma City to work with our precious friends Deborah, Nathan and Jon Burke at Inner City. Much to my and Deb's dismay, Jon and Jaden almost quit being friends over a girl. It was tense for a few minutes but they worked through it, what a relief. First grade has almost come and gone and I can't seem to find where it went. He is reading very well and wants to be a preaching football player. The future should be interesting.

Gabby - She is holding her own on the volleyball court and JBQ (junior bible quiz) rotations. Her bible quiz team placed 4th in the district and volleyball is coming very naturally to her. The rules state that once you have served 4 points on the other team you have to rotate. She has done that several times and isn't afraid to move to the ball. She is turning into this beautiful young woman and at times I find myself gaining a friend. (being the mom will always come first though!) It's crazy to already be battling the "borrowing affect". "Mom can I borrow a shirt...Mom can I borrow some shoes....Mom can I borrow..?" It is too early for this! But I am so excited to see who she is becoming. She will crown Honor Star (because she wants to - unlike some of us who were FORCED TOO! yes, still a little bitter about that) this summer. Her grades are great and yes, "drama is her life" too!

Ed and Steph - We are trying to keep up with their social schedules and sports stuff and still find time to run a youth ministry and love each other. I will start working for a few weeks at a law firm here in Humble while the receptionist is out on maternity leave tomorrow. Planning summer trips, vacation next month (which by the way I am more excited about every day), spring break, a trip to the rodeo, homework, cleaning house, company, Bible study, volleyball, football, you name it and we have attempted to conquer it. So here is the latest family update...

Jaden has some serious football skills! In his first football game ever, he intercepted one pass, almost intercepted another, ran the ball about 40 yds., and had 3 tackles. He is loving football! I am watching this sooner born and sooner bred boy play the one sport he has always wanted to play and he is doing great at it. He is looking forward to seeing Jon and Nathan and Nana and Papaw next week during spring break. (and I think it's in that order too. sorry nana and papaw) If he didn't have to go to school life would be close to perfect for him.

Gabby is so wonderful. I'm watching her turn into a beautiful young woman. We have hit the beginning stages of noticing boys. (sigh) So it only gets more interesting from here. Her first volleyball game was last weekend and she was one of only 2 girls that caused an actual volley to happen. She has potential. (that comes from her daddy because I still do the duck and cover when a ball heads my way!) The highlight of her weekend was her date with her daddy to see the Jonas Brother's concert. They had a blast! The pictures are priceless.

Ed and I are keepin' hope alive! Until later...It's crazy around here!

Nice To Hear

Have you ever noticed that there is always a line to tell you when your kid has done someting stupid or mean? Yet, there is only tumbleweed and wind when they do wonderful stuff? Being on staff at a church has always afforded my kids an extra 100 sets of parents. Someone is always quick to let us know when our little angels have allowed thier halo's to tilt and tarnish.

Today has been the polar opposite of the norm. Each one of my kids has had a random adult compliment them. The mother of one of Gabby's friends let me know how much she enjoy's her daughter being around Gabbby. She made a point to tell me how much more respectful and kind she is after Gabby has been over. And Jaden's teacher made a point to tell Edgar and I how hard he is working in class and how glad she is to have him. You have no idea how nice it is to hear those types of things. Today, I determmined to make a point to say nice things about other kids to their parents. What an encouragement to my kids and to me today.

Happy Birthday Jaden

My baby is 7!!! However, my son refused to take time to learn how to tie his shoes. For almost seven long years we have heard, "Mom, can you tie my shoe?", or "Dad my shoe won't keep tied..". But today everything has changed! Jaden can now officially tie his own shoes. Yes, one small leap for mankind, one giant leap for Ayala manhood. He is very impatient with himself and does not like for it to take more than once for a concept to sink in. But today, the wires connected and now Edgar and I have been informed that we are no longer needed when it comes to the shoe string. Not sure how I actually feel about one more step toward total independance, but awesome to see him so proud of himself.

On another note, Jaden will start flag football this weekend. This is the beginning to (hopefully) a long and illustrious football career. Gabby will start volleyball sometime next week. She is very excited and is going to be pretty good. (we think) So for now, that's all folks....

American Idol Here We Come...

On Friday evening February 20th your calendar may be empty. Not the Ayala family calendar. We will be attending the Humble Christian School Talent Show, where Gabby and a couple of friends will be preforming. They tried out for the talent show yesterday and made it. They will be doing some kind of black light dance/human video thing. I'm sure there is a proper name for this new form of "expression", I'm just not sure what it is. So, she came home very, very excited to be a part of the "4 Amiga's" and we are very proud of her accomplishments.

Now, her brother seems to always have the ability to pop her bubble and, quite frankly, lives to do it. So after the exciting news of the talent show spot had been shared, Jaden informed her that she was lucky he didn't try out. He told her if he had tried out she never would have made the show because he knows he sings like Zach Efron and the girls think he is hot. So, if he would have sung "Bet on It" (from HSM 2) he would have gotten her spot in the show. Gabby quickly informed him that he couldn't sing that song by himself because it was sung by a group in the movie. To which he replied, "I don't need a group, I stand alone."

So, having said all of that, I hope Simon, Paula, Kara, and Randy are ready because in a couple of years "J Dog" gonna be in the house!!!! There is never a dull moment....

We Don't Have A Clue

Sunday night I started reading a book that several people have deemed a "must read". So, in the quiet of the evening I opened the book and was amazed at what I found. What I found was another reminder that we (humans) have no clue as to what the true nature and character of the Creator of the Universe truly entails. We have our preconceived notions and ideas that we've learned from Sunday School, and those are good. But, my heart was stirred as to the fact He is so much MORE than we can even grasp. His love and beauty are deep and vibrant. And even in the moments it seems we are all alone He is our next breath. I love the fact that we will never fully understand the mystery that surrounds Him this side of eternity. I find it hard to grasp that He loved (loves) me when I am completely unlovable. My brain can hardly wrap around the concept that before I ever responded to His love He was preparing a way to spend forever with me. I finished the book just before bed last night. As I was about to drift off to sleep, I had to ask myself one question...Why do I allow myself to limit a limitless God? Call it whatever you want to, but this simple minded little girl needed a gentle reminder that the One I serve is more than capable to handle my failure, fear, doubt, selfishness, anger, sorrow, and any other emotion in between. Have you ever had a moment when a concept just becomes a little more concrete for you? I love this song:

The more I seek you, the more I find you.
The more I find you, the more I love you.
I want to sit at Your feet, drink from the cup in Your hand.
Lay back against You and breathe, feel Your heartbeat.
This love is so deep it's more than I can stand.
I melt in Your peace. It's overwhelming.

As you seek Him today, may you find Him in a deeper way. And when you find Him, may you fall in love with Him all over again. May you be overwhelmed today. I know I am.

What a Difference a Week Makes!

WOW! One week. One VERY LONG, and exhausting week. Our house is finally finished! All Ayala's are back in the proper rooms and all rooms have ceilings and flooring (other than concrete). It took a little while but all the wood flooring is in and all rugs have been rolled back out. We have just a little bit of painters tape still down, but it is coming off tonight. This entire process has taken exactly 148 from the invasive arrival of Hurricane Ike to the last piece of china put back into the china hutch. So what have I learned in the last 148 days?

1. God really cares about my wants as well as my needs.

2. God works in His timing - not mine.

3. It's sad to say but few people in the world understand nice.

4. I need to pray for more patience. (that particular fruit seems to grow sporadically for me)

5. Kids are very resilient.

6. You can do all things through Christ who gives you strength.

7. Never underestimate the value of your family.

8. If you want to know if someone is your friend, knock on their door in the middle of a torrent rain storm crying and screaming "My house is falling apart". If they open the door they are your friends.

9. Always wear modest pj's to bed during hurricane season.

10. And last but not least, if a hurricane is headed your way...get the heck outta Dodge!!

This past week Edgar has been sick with the flu and an ear infection. This morning on the way out the door to church Jaden says "Mom, I think I'm gonna throw up". To which I reply, "not on the new floors son!" SO now Jaden and I are home because he is running a fever and has been throwing up all day. I'm not sure what else I can find to do now that every closet has been cleaned out and reorganized, the floors have been swept and mopped 2x's today alone, both bathrooms cleaned, and all the laundry is caught up. Could it be that I may actually be able to sit down and watch a movie or read a book? I better not say that to loud or something will pop up. Hope you enjoy the pic's of our new house!!

Finally....

Last night Gabby was able to sleep in her own room!! For the first time since September 15th, she crawled in her bed rather than laying down on the floor of Jaden's room. She was so happy that she couldn't stop smiling. Long after they had gone to sleep we went in to check on them and she was actually smiling in her sleep. Jaden on the other hand was heart broken. He loved having sissy sleep in his room. When we were getting her situated, he ran to his room and threw himself across the bed and sobbed. It all started at 6:15 a.m.. Got up and got the kids up. Went back to bed. Got up again. Helped get the kids dressed. Made breakfast (and COFFEE). Brushed teeth. Located Gabby's P.E. clothes. Tied Jaden's shoes. Loaded the dishwasher. Edgar left to take kids to school. Sat down for 30 minutes with Jesus and my healthy coffee. Got up. Painted Gabby's room, all four walls. Went to Lowes. Came home. Went to pick up product for flooring that was in at the store across town. Came home. Went to Lowes. Put second coat of paint on Gabby's room. Went to Lowes. Ate lunch. Went to Lowes. Put second coat of paint on the floor in the laundry room. Went to Lowes. (are you seeing a pattern here?!) Almost forgot to pick up children from school. Went to Chick-Fil-A. (unfortunately not for myself) Came home. Went to Lowes. Painted polka dots on Gabby's wall (with Rebecca's help. Thank you..) Got a call the guys putting in the back door were on the way. Opened the door for the backdoor boy and company. Found out I was SERIOUSLY going to go back to Lowes. So I went to Lowes. Came home. Touched up all paint in front part of the house. But now at the end of the day look what we've accomplished.....and that doesn't include the new fence that my wonderful in-laws have worked on too! I know you can see all the dust, but put a cork in it WE ARE REMODELING!!!

See What I Mean?

O.K. I decided to take some pictures of my house today and then report back in a week. This is the front living area. Normally there is a couch and love seat along with a formal dining room set. Lately it has been home to all of Gabby's furniture too. The picture on the right is my kitchen and breakfast area. It now looks as if the hurricane came into the house and has taken up residence. I will post more progress as we go. All the floors look like the front living area. All concrete floors.

Duty

So, a couple of years ago we had the Congressman from our district here in Texas come and speak to the church. During his speech he mentioned, "Everyone has a duty". Gabby was about 8 at the time and looked over to her dad and I and simply giggled and said, "he said dooty". (notice the spelling) Because Edgar and I are both so mature we, of course, started to laugh hysterically. The word "duty" or "dooty" has had a special place in our home ever since then. I told you all of that to tell you, today started with the same silly giggles from two years ago. Edgar received the first Ayala jury summons in the mail a few weeks ago. Can you believe that neither one of us has ever been summonsed? So, first thing this morning he says to me, "Bubba (a name he frequently calls me, why I'm not sure. I still have all my teeth) I have to do my civic duty today." Now in normal homes that would not really be a major statement, and would probably be said with a hint of national pride. Not in our home. Immediately we both die laughing and thus begins the day.

I would like to report to you he was not selected for the jury, but did fulfill his...obligation. In other news Gabby has torn her pants at school and is not exactly sure why I can't magically blink a new pair of pants to her telepathically. Jaden is still struggling with the Black History project, and was completely offended I would not stop to get him a special breakfast at Sonic this morning. This completes my blogging duty (hee hee) for the day. Isn't it great that it doesn't take much to entertain us?

How About That!

Entry #1,393 about the Ayala house remodel. We bought our flooring on Saturday. I have been ever so kindly reminded of the old saying "You have wine taste on a beer budget." But just let me ever so kindly tell you, reader, that if you stay diligent in your search, you can find exactly what you are looking for. We stumbled upon a store we had never seen on Saturday and found the exact color in a better product for the perfect price!! For those of you that wonder if God cares about your "wants"...He does. He cares as much about them as your needs. It's just that He knows which is needed at the right moment. I am writing this to myself for future reference. So, Stephanie, don't forget that yes, He does hear you and He does get it!

Just About the Time You Think...

Just about the time you think you are making headway on something, ever notice how things seem to have an abrupt halt? This whole house thing is about to drive me to drink. How hard can it be to follow simple instructions? We have been waiting on flooring estimates from a company (that shall remain nameless for now). I have been into the "establishment" (say that in a slightly irritated and irrational tone for full effect) FOUR times. And four times have asked for a flooring estimate to include hardwood flooring and carpet in different areas of the house. So a couple of days ago we went to retrieve the infamous estimate. Much to my dismay no hard wood was included, only carpet. REALLY?!!! You didn't know I wanted hardwood? I can see where the last four times I was in and I said "quote me on HARDWOOD", that can be confusing. I am quite certain Jesus may very well come back before this house is finished. The bad thing is I may be left with the flooring guy if I don't change my attitude. So, again we wait, and wait, and wait...........

Yeah!!!

Guess what I'm listening to? Men on my roof! I'm getting a new roof today. And I'm soooo happy about it. Funny how excited you get about stuff no one ever notices. It's like getting new tires for your car, they sure drive better, but no one ever says, "Now those are some nice tires. What did those run you?" Even though no one else cares as much as we do.... new roof yeah!!

One more thing. Jaden came home with an assignment to do a project on a famous African- American. So I asked who he wanted to do his project on, and he responded George W. Bush. After an interesting discussion of why that wasn't possible, he settled on Adrian Peterson. (the running back for the Minnesota Vikings and former Oklahoma Sooner) I'm not sure that's exactly what the teacher had in mind, but we are gonna make it work. I guess what I'm trying to say is....my kid is color blind yeah!!!!

So Much for Being an Heiress

Yesterday started with such high hopes. I was so encouraged at the very thought of being an heriess to the fortune of heavens riches. But alas, thinking about all the incredible things that are yet to come could only last for a moment. My current world slapped me back into the reality of today. As I picked up my children from school yesterday, we began to go over the evening activities. Enjoy the conversation:

Me: Hey guys we are going straight back to the church today, because I'm cooking dinner for Fellowship Cafe. (we have dinner available to the church every Wednesday night)
Gabby:  What are we having?
Me:  I'm making chili.
Jaden: UUHHHHH! I hate chili!
Me:  I'm making it homemade...
Jaden:  It tastes like crap.
Me: Then you don't have to eat.
Jaden:  I can have dessert.
Me: No not if you don't eat dinner.
Jaden: (long huffy sigh)
Gabby: I like your chili. (pause) Oh, mom you need to get my P.E. clothes washed tonight, I need them for tomorrow.
Me:  Where are they?
Gabby: I don't know.
Me: How can I wash them if you don't know where they are? You need to find them when you get home.
Gabby: Isn't that your job?

I'm sure none of your children ever talk to you like this. And for anyone that may be offended that my six year old said crap, please know it could have been much worse. We work with teenagers. I've never heard an heiress addressed quite like that. Cinderella maybe, but not the heiress to a fortune. So, the reality of life is this...Cinderella today, maybe heiress someday.

Just So You Know...

Last night I learned something. Living in Houston has afforded me a HUGE opportunity. Beth Moore does a bible study here on Tuesday nights, and I have been very fortunate to be able to attend them. Last night she began a new study called "The Inheritance". I can't wait to see what the Lord reveals to me over the next 9 weeks. But, just so you know.... I'm an heiress!
I know that sounds crazy but it's true. No, Randy and Sharon haven't started playing the lottery and hit it big. (at least not that I'm aware of???) I am an heiress to the fortune of my Father. And because of Christ, I have dibs on everything that is His. One of these days I am going to inherit some amazing stuff! But until then, this heiress will continue to live worthy of her calling, and keep up with the laundry, cook dinner, pay the bills, wrestle the children, love the man God gave me. Just wanted you to know who you are dealing with...an Heiress.

Correction

Obviously in the last 15 years I have forgotten the actual date I was married. Let's see...we have ordered material for a new roof. We've had the house measured for new flooring. Much past that not much going on with Edgar and I, except we will be married 15 years on Thursday of this week. We are pretty proud of that. Fifteen years, and both of us are still living and actually still like each other. We will be spending our 15th wedding anniversary with 125 of our closest teenage friends at Mpact Thursday night.

Gabby. Gabby is very excited about getting a new room. Her new bedding should be here early in the week and we will paint her room at some point this week. She is becoming a beautiful young woman. She has become quite the WII player. I am so proud of who she is.

Jaden has decided that every time we see a car pulled over by a cop (and I quote) "they must be drinking". Now we aren't sure where that is coming from but at least he is realizing those two things don't mix. In a conversation last week on the way home from school Gabby asked me what I would change if I were President of the United States. While I was thinking the kids proceeded to have a conversation that went like this:
Gabby: I would make all tobacco illegal.
Jaden: Yeah, me too and all the beer. (not sure where beer has come into the picture)
Gabby: Then there would be no smoking or drunk driving.
Jaden: I'm with you sister. Hallelujah!
Gabby: Jaden, don't say hallelujah unless you are praising God.
Jaden: I'm always praisin' God 'cuz I'm a , hello, Christian.
Gabby:     What do you mean?
Jaden: It means I'm you know like Jesus, where have you been? Did you hear dad say we gotta talk like Christians?
Gabby:     Yes, but..
Jaden: Well, Christians say hallelujah. Everything is going haywire and the balance of power is out of whack in your little universe? I know this may come as a surprise to you, but those days happen often in our house. I'm sure you are thinking, "surely not in the Ayala house!". But if the truth be known, it happens...often. This past week I found myself completely devastated about a situation. Isn't it amazing that we can be grown ups and the "sticks and stones" of life still bother us? As I sat at my desk upset, hurt, angry and disappointed, I actually had the thought, "For real God are you even listening?". I love the fact I can talk to Him just like I can talk to you.

The longer I sat there the more I realized the answer wasn't in my sulking, but would always be found in His Word. I really felt Him nudging me to Romans chapter 8. When I got to verse 38 this is what I read: "And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God's love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, NEITHER OUR FEARS FOR TODAY NOR OUR WORRIES ABOUT TOMORROW, not even the powers of hell can separate us from God's love." You have no idea how many times I have read this verse. But that day it was if God was saying, "Yes I hear you and I know what's going on. Let me handle it. I got this." What a big God we serve!

So whatever you are facing this week know that He knows where you are and no matter what you are up against NOTHING can separate you from His love.

The Waiting is Over

For anyone who may stumble onto this blog and does not know us, our home was damaged in Hurricane Ike. For my friends and family who are sick of hearing me whine about it, hopefully today will be the last day you hear my sob story. After 3 and a half VERY LONG MONTHS, full of frustration, tears, anger, and lots of "you gotta be kidding me moments", we have our insurance check!!! In the next couple of weeks we may actually have a new roof, new flooring, a ceiling in Gabby's room and the garage, and my sanity back!

It's awesome to start a new year and already visibly see God's hand move. I would love to tell you that this experience has allowed me to cultivate a healthy crop of the Fruit of the Spirit, patience. Not so much. I am, however, even more convinced than ever before that God cares about the details of my life even more than I do. When we can let go of our adgenda and let Him be the author of all life's fine print, we are NEVER disappointed.

Just one more detail He has penned for me....I have been praying that Gabby would have a good solid friend in her class at school. Today one of her closest friends at church started school and is even in her class! Thank goodness "He works all things together for the good of those that love Him and are called according to His purpose." - Romans 8:28

New Year, New Chance

Happy New Year! We started our new year in bed by 11:30 p.m.. Not sure that has ever happened in our house. It's the first and we've already done something different. At the end of each year I always think back and inevitably find a thousand opportunities I missed. I know there are lots of them I seize, but the one's I miss really eat at me. So when a new year starts I get very excited. When you can remember the mistakes you've made, you don't have to make them again. So I am so happy for a clean slate and 365 days to make the new year count. I hope this year you will be reminded daily how much the Lord loves you, how much He wants to use you, and what an amazing miracle you are! You are loved. Let's make the most of this year and like my Gabby said, "Same 'ol God, brand new me!"

P.S. - Check out the Christmas pic's at the bottom of the blog!!

Noooooooooo...

What an awesome Christmas we have had! Last night and today have been filled with lots of wrapping paper and squeals. Christmas Eve is always spent opening presents with my mom's side of the family. (at least when it is an Oklahoma Christmas) So, true to tradition we opened presents at my Aunt Jan's house. Both of my kids were thrilled with all the gifts they got. Jaden even told us in the car that the Indiana Jones sword he got from Aunt Dinkey was (and I quote) "A dream come true!". Who knew a plastic sword was all it would take? But before anyone gets to excited he also said the McDonalds coupons he got from Aunt Gloria were dreams come true as well... Gabby loved all the Barbie and other fun stuff she got. She hasn't been quite as dramatic though. When they both came to the conclusion that Christmas was coming to an end there was a huge gasp and a long whiny "Nooooooooooooo" from the back seat. It should be an interesting week watching my Indiana Batman spy pull the trigger on the nerf gun that I'm sure will disrupt the barbie ball being held in the other room.

Today at my Memaw's (dad's side) Jaden put on a show, while Gabby begged him to stop. I think that I really am reliving my childhood and reaping things my brother sowed. (I was the perfect child of course) Anyway, I realized how much I REALLY miss my family! Because, sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name, and they're always glad you came.... Sorry, Justin and I watched to much T.V. growing up. I will post pictures from the week soon. Until then...Merry Christmas!!

Can we Open Presents?

Has anyone else had kids asking "can we open presents?" My two kids can not wait to get to my Aunt Jan's house to open presents tonight. They woke up this morning eyeing the tree and scoping out the gifts with their names on the tags. I love the excitement in the air on Christmas Eve. It is electric around the house. The anticipation is absolutely contagious. I'm actually excited to see what's under the tree with my name too!

Later today we are going to the movies. We are in Tulsa at my brother's house for Christmas. And let me just tell you we are having a blast! My kids miss Chloe and Charli and are getting a full dose of the Graves girls. (they are getting a full dose of Ayala too) It is so fun to watch them wrestle and chase each other, and even funnier to watch them play the Wii. Especially when JADEN is anything but a gracious loser. Charli beat him in bowling yesterday and that did not set well.

We went to the mall to see Santa and get a picture. Why is it impossible to get a good picture of kids on Santa's lap? Two of the kids look like they hit the eggnog pretty hard, one looks like she is seconds away from a melt down, and Gabby just smiled like she was about to get a shot. The great thing was no one cried though. Last night we decided to load them all up to look at Christmas lights. Not quite what any of us adults were expecting. Most of the time we were in the car someone was complaining about being cramped, having to wear a seat belt, or wanting to get out and walk in the 16 degree weather. It was all topped off with Aunt Casey singing Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas is You". Love Christmas, love my family, and can't wait to see what happens today!

Christmas Fun

Only 8 days until Christmas!! It has actually gotten cold here in Houston and even snowed last week. I spent a week at home with my mom and dad in Oklahoma City while my mom is recooperating from sugery. I even had a chance to spend some time with my brother and his family. After making a gingerbread house with the girls (for pictures go to www.TheBessertofLife.blogspot.com) I can't wait to get back for the holidays!

We opened gifts with Edgar's family Saturday night and then went to the neatest thing ever. We walked through Bethlehem. A church in Clearlake had recreated the city and had lots of hands on things for the kids to do. There were camels, sheep, donkey's, chickens, and storefronts full things for the kids to make. My heart was so full when I saw Jaden grinding wheat on the threshing floor. I had just reread the story about King David trying to purchase a threshing floor. The man that owned offered to give King David the property for free and David declined the offer stating that he could never give the Lord something that had cost him nothing.

To top it all off, at the end was a stable with Mary, Joseph and Baby Jesus. The baby was screaming and Mary wasn't sure what to do about it. I almost cried when I thought about how scared she must have been that night. A new baby and no clean place to lay him. It really was a strange way to bring Him into the world. This was the beginning of a new Ayala family tradition.

It's all in the Name

As it gets closer to Christmas and we start talking more and more about the birth of our Precious Saviour, the concept of the meaning of names takes on a new thought for me. When we began to discuss names for our children the meaning of the name was so important to us. Edgar and I discovered that some of the names we really liked had really odd origins and meanings. For instance, we really wanted to name Gabrielle, Sydney. That was until we realized the meaning of the name was "a wide well watered land." Now, if you are reading this and your kid's name is Sydney, know I think it is a lovely name. As we researched further the name Gabrielle jumped out at us. It means, "the strength of God". So, Gabrielle it was.

After rereading Isaiah 9 and Luke 2 again, a crazy thought occured to me. What if Mary and Joseph had been obedient all the way up to naming the baby? Isaiah said he would be called "Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." The name of Jesus covers all that!!! Can you even imagine if Mary and Joseph had decided against the naming the baby Jesus and instead named Him, something like Mortimer? Could the government rest on the shoulders of a man named Mortimer? Mortimer means dead sea. (don't be offended if that is a family name for you, just contemplate the thought) But the complete obedience of a mother and father lead us to the sweetest name of all names - Jesus. I love His name and all that it means to me. He is my friend, my Father, my Healer, my Portion, my Banner, my Love, my Joy, my Provider, my Rest, my Fortress in times of trouble. Jesus - it really is ALL in His Name!

Uhh..New Calendar Please..

(To truly get the full effect of the title say it with a somewhat confused look on your face holding one finger in the air.) That is an indication of how I felt when I started looking at my December calendar this morning. Yet another mind boggling question for me is, how the heck does the calendar fill up so fast during the holidays?! Looking at the rehearsals and parties and programs, causes me to wonder what do we do the rest of the year? Obviously, nothing in comparison to all we do in December.

I am trying to find a good time to run back to OKC and spend some time with my mom. She has been in the hospital and is recovering from a fractured hip, and well let's just say a rough month. But the calendar is RELENTLESS. Just about the time I think I have found
the perfect time to slow down , I notice a very valid reason why the earth will not continue to rotate on its currant axis if I do. This puts an enormous amount of pressure on me. The funny thing is no one else seems to see it the same way I do. The kids actually seem to act as if they wouldn't mind store bought cookies at the class party. And I'm not sure Edgar cares if the bows on the Christmas packages are handmade or not. So this is a Christmas experiment for me. I am going to actually drop everything and do what I want to do not what I feel like I need to do. Be forewarned if gravity ceases to exist in the next few days....that would be my fault. And I'm willing to bear the responsibility.

Really....why are pictures hard to take??

Today at 11:30 a.m. I came to the realization that we had not taken Christmas pictures. So, I quickly called the local portrait studio and made an afternoon appointment for the entire family. Normally, I only do pictures of my kids, but today I was feeling a little more adventurous. The next step of course was deciding what we would all wear. After going in circles about who had this color and who didn't have that color, I began to wonder who would be offended to get a Christmas card of all of us stark raving naked. Thank God, I discovered we all had something red and something black. (a bit boring, but we would be clothed)

When we arrived at the studio, my kids were already not digging the whole concept. Jaden wanted to take a picture on a motorcycle, and Gabby just wanted to go home. When they called us back Edgar's comments about why he couldn't sit the way the photographer wanted him to sent all of us into hysterics. So then we all have those abnormally huge show every tooth in your mouth smiles and huge veins popping out of our foreheads from laughter. To make a very long story short, seriously...why is it so hard to get one good picture of four people sitting less than 3 inches from one another?? These are life questions that never seem to be answered for me.

Black Friday = Good Day

It all started at 6:30 a.m. this morning. I woke up and couldn't go back to sleep. The longer I laid in bed the more the fact people were out shopping and potentially stealing bargins that should be mine, bothered me. Edgar rolled over and I took full advantage, to wake him up of course. He kindly staggered out of bed, only after I was up dressed, make up on and hair fixed. (all in about 6 minutes flat, a personal record for me!) So out into the madness we went only to be denied first cat out of the bag. But I did remember that I had some 50% off coupons to Michaels. Success was immenant. So off we went, only to be informed that the coupons were only good after 12:00 p.m.. I ,of course, vowed to return. After stops to three other well known stores, we decided (against our better judgement) to go into Toys R Us. I never knew that you could have that many grumpy, sale crazed, screaming, relentless mothers all in one place. The line went all the way to the back of the store. Of course the item I wanted was on the tallest shelf. But I didn't care. The buy one get one would be mine. So do you think the Ayala's waited and asked for help? Negitive ghost rider. With the help of my strong and well bred man, I climbed to the top of the shelving. Oh, I got my game, I got my game. Then to make it even better I noticed that the line on the Babies R Us side was not as long, so into the babies area we went. (I did shudder at the thought of needing to shop there again) We were in and out in 20 minutes. We had a blast today, and oh yeah, I did go back to Michaels and they never knew what hit them.....

Thankful for Today

Wow! Thanksgiving has come and all our bellies are jolly. We spent the morning downtown at the Thanksgiving Day Parade. It was a blast. I think it was the best parade we have been to so far here in Houston. The rest of the day we have been at Edgar's sisters house in Pearland. The kids rode bikes, went fishing and of course bickered back and forth. My youngest nephew got stuck inside an elevator (alone), my youngest niece fell into the lake by Linda's house, my son peed his pants because he was laughing, and we fried one heck of a turkey today. It has been a great day. I really am blessed to have the family that I have. Can't wait to be all together again, because when we are...there is never a dull moment. Most of my friends and family are a part of the blogging world so, I was feeling a little left out. So, it's Thanksgiving week and the kids are out of school for the week. My responsibility for the family feast is homemade bread. Hope you have a great Thanksgiving and find some random things to be thankful for....
Random things our family is thankful for....
1. No bologna at Thanksgiving this year
2. Fall colors
3. Pam cooking spray
4. Desk calendars
5.
